Scope
We are currently moving into a new resource-phase of exploration at GFG Resources and are accepting applications for a Core Cutter/Core Technician at our projects in Ontario, Canada. The role is a full-time permanent position and will report directly to the Exploration Manager. Competitive salary, benefits package and equity participation are included. The job site is located in Timmins, Ontario. Priority will be given to local applicants on normalized hours, whereas FIFO worker rotations will be 20 days on, 10 days off.
Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities for this position are:
- Establish and maintain a safe and environmentally conscientious work environment
- Open core boxes every morning and manipulate core boxes for geologists and for storage purposes, including – checking orientation marks, mark orientation line and meter marks, recording QA/QC information, magnetic susceptibility, and RQD data measurement.
- Cutting drill core to produce core samples using a rock saw according to detailed specifications
- Bagging and tagging the cut samples, ensuring all core samples meet quality standards by inspecting finished products for accuracy and consistency.
- Preparing sample bags for shipment to the laboratory.
- Maintain optimal cutting machine performance through regular adjustments, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.
- General housekeeping and organization of workspaces.
- Season specific outdoor work including but not limited to: flagging collars, drill inspections, prospecting, till sampling, flagging trails, communicating with field staff, maintaining and updating GIS projects.
- Other duties may include, but are not limited to: troubleshooting sample issues, managing core storage yards, mapping out core yards, compiling historic datasets, data input.
Skills and Qualifications
The skills required for this position are generally in line with experience including:
- Have a positive and proactive attitude towards environmental responsibility, health and safety, and respectful workplace practices.
- Prior experience working in gold exploration, preferably within a core shack facility, is an asset
- Geotechnical logging experience is considered an asset
- Prior experience working with oriented core is considered an asset
- Experience in QA-QC procedures is an asset
- Communicate openly, honestly, in a timely manner
- Team player: must work well within diverse groups of people for extended periods of time
- Strong attention to detail
- Must be organized
- Ability to lift 50lbs regularly throughout the shift
- Must hold a valid driver’s license
